A rare 18K rose gold pendant (hallmark: owl) set with an amethyst, on which a design in gold, diamonds, rubies, and emeralds—depicting the coat of arms of the Prince of Wales—is inlaid within a border of pearls (probably fine pearls).

The phrase “Ich Dien” (which means “I serve” in German), as used here, is the motto associated with the three ostrich feathers on the Prince of Wales’s insignia. Although it is not of purely Welsh origin, it is often used to symbolize Wales.

19th-century piece.
Recently re-strung.

Gross weight: 6.58 g
Height: 3.00 cm
Width: 2.00 cm

Condition: very slight micro-scratches on the gold parts, slight wear on the stones, traces of soldering on the band; see photos.

A rare pendant featuring the emblem and motto of the Prince of Wales. These have their origins in at the Battle of Crécy in 1346: Following the victory ofEdward III, his eldest son (and therefore his heir apparent),  Edward of Woodstock, known as the “Black Prince” (1330–1376), adopted the emblem and motto of the fallen King of Bohemia—ostrich feathers and the motto “Ich Dien” (“I serve”).
