Rare double-sided Art Nouveau romantic medal in 18-karat yellow gold (eagle-head hallmark) depicting, on the obverse, a couple embracing against the backdrop of a sunset over the sea, surrounded by Edmond de Rostand’s famous quote, “There is no great love except in the shadow of a great dream,” set within a floral design, and, on the reverse, a tree.
Surrounded by midnight-blue enamel in a plique-à-jour pattern and button pearls (probably fine).
A French work, circa 1910, by the engraver Emile Monier (signed).

Condition: slight micro-scratches, wear, and oxidation on the gold parts; minor chips in the enamel; and slight traces of glue under the pearls—see photos.
Edmond Rostand (1868–1918) is one of the leading figures in French poetry, literature, and drama. Best known for writing *Cyrano de Bergerac*, he is also the author of a rich body of work consisting of poetry collections and plays.
